Mandatory vaccination against COVID-19 for medics?
The Polish Public Health Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences is calling on the authorities to introduce a statutory obligation to vaccinate against COVID-19 all people employed in institutions that meet health, care and educational needs.
A letter from the Public Health Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PSC PAN) on vaccination against COVID-19, submitted to PAP, appealed m.in for the introduction of a statutory obligation for all those employed in institutions that meet health, care and educational needs „to receive vaccination against the COVID-19” epidemic that is causing dramatic health consequences;.
They also called for the implementation of a wide-ranging information campaign urging the largest possible groups of the population to undergo vaccination, including vulnerable groups such as seniors, but also adolescents and children who may contribute to the spread of the virus, and to intensify efforts to facilitate the vaccination of those who need it.
The Committee also called for local governments to be encouraged to implement a wide range of available incentives and rewards to encourage immunization and to cooperate with civic organizations in this area.
The NCP PAS has also asked the local governments of the medical profession to be unequivocally critical in cases of public questioning of the legitimacy of COVID-19 vaccination by their members.
The committee justified its demands, m.in. Bearing in mind the historical and current negative experience of humanity with epidemics that have claimed millions of lives in the past and present, and recognizing the right of people to live in the health and comfort afforded by the lifting of epidemic prohibitions and orders.
KZP PAN operates at the Faculty V of Medical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Its scope includes public health and epidemiology. Its tasks include taking measures to advance the discipline of public health, including, in particular, analyzing and evaluating the state of science, pronouncing on matters of scientific policy, initiating research, evaluating programs, and cooperating in the dissemination of the results of research and scientific work.
It is still unclear how long post-vaccination protection against COVID-19 will last, and how often these vaccinations will need to be repeated. – I am cautiously optimistic on this subject – says in an interview with Dentonet virologist Dr. Hab. n. med. Tomasz DzieciÄ…tkowski.
